From Pastor Steve (ShipsCaptains)
Jesus Christ was a protester. He did not like the way things were being done in the Lords name and protested against it for 3 years. He died in protest but also in understanding. His last words were “Forgive them Father, for they know, not what they do.” I do believe He was onto something there. The statement holds true today and applies broadly.
St.Paul (a disciple of Jesus) was a protester. Also did jail time for his protests. Spoke out against the status quo and unfortunately lost his head over the whole thing. The other 12 disciple’s were also protesters, they all, with the exception of John, met miserable endings. Protest is serious business with sometimes serious consequences. In their case, the success of the protest is felt today through out the world by the leading religious body, Christianity.
The Reverend King (Martin Luther Jr.) was also a protester. So is Reverend Jackson (Jessie) of Rainbow Coalition fame. I would say they both are quite Christian and quite successful protesters.
So what, in the domain of Hades, is this idiot at the 700 Club flapping his gums about? Calling for Christians to not join the OWS movement, sorry Pat, we already have. So has the Jews, Muslims and non-denominational but I believe in God folks. I dare say we might even have a few misguided atheists about the camps. Only thing missing is the Choirs .. but we do have drummers.
We can see (favorite passage in the Bible “Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: Ezekiel 12:2” the protest voices are founded in Scripture. How can this not be an exceptionable opportunity for Christians to participate in? Wait, I know, takes away the TV time they would spend listening to your babble on the 700 Club perhaps?
I don’t know about you folks but this Chaplain is seriously disappointed and quite frustrated at the ignorance of some to see, that the #OWS movement is a legitimate protest against things that are seriously wrong on this planet. The people want change. All people throughout the world want the corruption and government stalemate to cease. Their’s is the Chorus, they are acting in a most decidedly Christian manner in my view and I would imagine are being smiled upon from above.
I’m thinking, after we get this protest movement under our belt and have had the changes made we desire as a united planet, we do some old-fashioned Spring cleaning of folks that “have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not”. My guess is the success of the #OWS movement will set the standard for world leaders and perhaps I can finally stop using my favorite scripture passage. Oh and Pat. Perhaps a refresher course in Christian History would do you some good. That way, you don’t look like an idiot. The 1% would appreciate it, so I’m told.
